潘金蓮被嫁給了武大郎,遇上了武松、認識了⻄門慶,最後被鄰居拉皮條的王婆陷害接個做衣服的外快,莫名其妙的在婚姻中外遇,最後好像毒殺了親夫,被小叔砍掉了腦袋。成就了千年的罵名。那有人為了一件事情可以被罵一千年那麼久,這中間一定有什麼陰謀。一齣戲,節目從哪裡開始觀看,由你決定,劇場有數個小房間,房間門口載明了各種開門的條件,有的門人數夠多才能開,有的門卻相反;有的門只歡迎臭直男、但有的門只為了女性而開。門裡是一個觀點、一個故事、一個勾起你內心深處的私密情感。每一個接觸到的門,都根據你的認同與選擇說你想聽的故事。最後,你會怎麼相信他們都是無辜的。邀請您來參加這一場變成私刑的千年公審,見證風向與偏見的給我們帶來的深遠影響。真相就在眼前,卻被視角背叛。人云亦云,哪有什麼是公正,只有誰說了算而已。

Pan Jinlian married Wu Song’s brother Wu Dalang. She later runs into Wu Song and meets the merchant Ximen Qing. Pan Jinlian is tricked by her neighbor Granny Wang and goes from sewing clothes as a part-time job to inexplicably having an affair and poisoning her husband. Pan Jinlian is later decapitated by Wu Song as punishment, her name forever blackened. If one is reviled for a millennium because of what one has done, there must be a conspiracy somewhere.

It is up to the audience to choose from what chapter performance will begin. The theater has been divided into several small rooms, with connecting doors only opening when the stated conditions are met. For example, some doors only open when there are enough people in the room, others are the opposite. Some only open to straight men, others only to women.

Inside each room is a viewpoint, a story, a private emotion that grabs your innermost being. Every door you encounter follows from the stories you approve and from those you give your attention.

At the very end, how can you continue to believe that all the story’s actors are innocent? You are invited to attend this thousand-year public trial which turns into a lynching and to witness the profound impact of era-driven beliefs and prejudice. The truth is in front of our eyes, but we are betrayed by perspective. Repeating only what others have said, where is there justice in that? Justice, it seems, comes down to who has the final say.

2007年7月,栢優座決心成為台灣劇場界耕耘的的一份子。要擁抱與繼承傳統,要發展與創新,並在東方與西方之間學習兼容並蓄,我們應該做些什麼?還能做些什麼?臺灣是一個如此特別的地方,因為其地域及政治因素,使得臺灣成為一個多元文化的集散地,正因為如此,卻面臨一個困境;臺灣像是個什麼文化都有,卻都好像不是屬於我們的文化,如何發展出真正屬於自己的文化,這是我們面臨最大的問題,我們最關心的事情,也是栢優座一直持續想要突破的目標。栢優座成軍13年,自我期許為綜合的表演藝術平台,不劃地自限只表現單一劇種,我們吸收戲曲、曲藝、東西方戲劇,其真正的目的在於,能夠完成繼承與創新過程,綜合地域性與民族性,發展出真正屬於自己的文化面貌,屬於自己的戲劇劇種及表演體系。大陸有京劇、美國有歌舞劇、日本有能劇、歌舞伎。我們臺灣能不能有屬於自己的戲劇?能不能在海納百川後從我們腳下的土地真正自己長出來的血肉,用自己的方法說故事、用自己的方法演劇?是我們的追求,也是我們的目的地。

Po You Set

In July of 2007, Po You Set decided to become a member of the world of Taiwan theatre. We arrived with the intent of embracing and passing on traditions while developing and innovating our own ideas, as well as studying how to be inclusive of both Eastern and Western traditions. We also arrived with the questions: How should we go about achieving these goals? Is it even possible to do so?

Taiwan is a very unique place. Due to both its geographic and political factors, it offers a melting pot of diverse cultures. Yet exactly because of this, we face a dilemma. Almost every culture can be found in Taiwan, but none of them our own. The question is then: How do we develop a culture which can be called our own? This is the biggest problem facing us. It is here that Po Yo Set has focused its energies, the goal towards which we are continuously striving.

Active in the industry for over 13 years, Po You Set holds itself to be a comprehensive performing arts platform. Not limiting itself to one genre, we have absorbed elements from Chinese Opera, Quyi, as well as Western and Eastern dramas. Our true goal is to be able to complete the process of inheriting older traditions and innovating new ones, while integrating regionality and nationality to develop our own cultural outlook, as well as our own drama type and performance systems. China has Beijing Opera, the US has musicals, Japan has Noh and Kabuki. Can we therefore find a performance medium that belongs solely to Taiwan? In a land in which foreign cultural streams flow in abundance, can we look to the land at our feet and, from it, find homegrown methods and techniques with which to tell a story or put on a performance? This is our pursuit and our destination.
